Members

The Club has a range of projects that members are directly involved with or raising funds to support others.

These Projects affect local, state, national and international communities directly or by supplying funds to support them.

Currently the Club or members are physically involved with the following:

  • local projects:

    •  Botanical Gardens Environment

The Botanical Gardens are located in Buronga NSW. Members are currently providing working bees to rebuild pathways throughout the Gardens.

  • Hands on Heart

The Club is involved with Angela Izard First Aid Services Mildura in conducting CPR training of locals who apply for the training. The Club is also providing facilities for locals and businesses to donate towards funding this training. For more information go to Hands on Heart.

  • FoodBank

Club members are volunteering their time to assist with the creation of food-packs to be handed out to the needy within our Community. For more information go to FoodBank.

  • Circus Quirkus

Each year the Club funds and organises the Circus Quirkus for the local young youth. The Circus used to be known as the Magic Show.

  • District projects:

    • Skin Cancer Screening

The district funds, maintains and conducts Skin Cancer Screening with the use of a specially fitted out bus, which conducts testing of locals of remote communities throughout the C2 district. When a local is tested positive for skin-cancer they are given a report and recommended to see their local GP immediately. In some locations positive readings are as high as 48% of those tested, which is somewhat alarming.

  • Hearing Dogs

A long running project of the District is Hearing Dogs. This project funds and conducts the breading and training of dogs that act as ears for the deaf. Lately this project has been expanded to produce dogs that can detect medical events that are about to occur to their handlers. The first dog was assigned to a type 1 diabetic and within the first week of being assigned the dog detected a sharp drop in the handlers blood sugar levels a good fifteen minutes before the electronic devices attached to the handler. For more information go to Hearing Dogs.

  • National projects:

    • 75 Years Commemorative Garden Project

Lions Australia is proud to celebrate its 75th Anniversary in September 2022. Since the first club was formed in Lismore in 1947, Lions Australia has grown to be Australia’s largest service club organisation with a strong history in community service and commitment to improving the lives of others.

By September 2022, our aim is to have at least 75 Lions gardens planted throughout Australia. We believe this is a practical way for clubs to get involved, and helps us to showcase our commitment to the environment and to improving the communities in which we live. Start planning your garden now.
